Demo Derby Rules
General Rules
- If car does not pass inspection absolutely no refunds!!
- All rules will be followed, or you will not run!
- Any American made sedan or station wagons can run. No Imperials or Imperial sub-frames, 4x4s, ambulances, hearses, trucks, limousines, etc.
- Drivers must be 18 years of age and have a valid drivers license. Ages 14-17 must have a notarized permission slip and some form of drivers license.
- Driver must wear seat belt and helmet, along with eye protection.
- ALL drivers and crewmembers must attend the drivers meeting.
- DO NOT hit the drivers door! Sometimes this happens, but if it looks intentional or carelessness, you will be disqualified. Don't use your door as a shield, it may cause you to get disqualified.
- No hot-rodding in the pits, keep it an idle.
- Any open door or fire will cause disqualification. If in heat, you can fix it and come back in the consolation.
- NO sandbagging or holding!!! You will be disqualified!!
- You are given 1 minute for aggressive hits, 2 minutes for restarts and 2 minutes if you are hung up.
- No alcohol in the pits, if anyone is caught with alcohol, they will be disqualified, this includes their pit crews. This will be monitored!!!
- Cars are subject to re-inspection before any prize money is handed out. There is a $50.00 protest fee and you must be a driver in order to protest.
- Any controversies will be taken up at the drivers meeting.
- Any questions give a call!! If it doesn't say you can do it, don't do it. Call first!!
- Judges decisions are FINAL!!!!
Car Preparation
- All cars must be stock, unless modification is stated in the rules.
- All glass, plastic, chrome and interior must be removed from car before arriving to the derby.
- All decking in station wagons MUST be removed.
- Tires no bigger than 15 inch, No split rims, No studded tires, tractor lugs, foam filled, fluid filled or rags allowed.
- Use motor and tranny of choice, motor must be in the stock location. You may chain or weld motor and tranny to keep in place (don't strengthen the frame).
- You must use a radiator and it must be in stock location. No extra cooling systems allowed.
- All cars must have working brakes.
- All trailer hitches and braces must be removed.
- Original gas tanks must be removed. You must use a boat tank or well made fuel cell and it must be properly secured and covered. No plastic tanks or gas cans. Fuel lines must be secured and fastened properly. Keep away from exhaust. Place fuel cell behind drivers seat or in the o center of the car where the back seat used to be.
- Transmission coolers will be allowed, but must be safe and properly secured.
- Batteries must be moved to passenger floorboard, close to transmission. They must be properly secured and covered. You must have a number on each front door and one on the top for recognition of car.
Car Building
- Doors and trunk must be chained shut.
- For drivers protection, you may weld a bar (maximum diameter of 3") behind the drivers seat from doorpost to doorpost, and can be an X, you may also have a bar across your dash (maximum of 2"). You an also weld drivers door solid and place a plate or channel iron (maximum 5") across the drivers door not to exceed 6 inches past each seam.
- Bumpers are interchangeable but must be GM to GM; Ford to Ford etcyou can weld bumper brackets or towers to the frame. You can weld bumper brackets and schocks to the bumper. You can weld shocks to shock towers. You can collapse shocks and you can bolt the shocks to the towers with ½ inch bolt or less and it must be done vertically. You may trim bumper ends or fold them around. No welding on the bumpers except to weld brackets or shocks. When welding bumpers, shock and brackets-do not add any metal!! Weld shocks and brackets solid if you wish. Weld them good, we dont want any bumpers falling off. Dont weld your bumpers to anything except brackets or shocks!!!!
- Hood must be chained with maximum of 4 chains or follow bolting procedure.
- Hood must have at least a 12-inch square hole cut out in case of fire. Any holes cut in hood may be bolted back together with 5/16 or less bolts. You can put a bolt every 12 inches or 4 per hole. You will be allowed 8 hood bolts, these ARE NOT to go to the frame. Must be sheet metal to sheet metal. Hood must be open for inspection. Plates for hood bolts cannot exceed 5x5x1.2 inch. Hood bolts can be up to 1 inch in diameter.
- Suspension must at stock height. Leaf springs must be stock. You can re-clamp springs, 2 homemade clamps and 4 factory clamps per side. Homemade clamp cant exceed 2x4x1/4 inch. You can wire coil springs to rear end to prevent springs from falling out.
- You can run shifter through floor and you can have a switch panel. You may also have a hand throttle. If you are running and electric fuel pump -must be hooked to your ignition switch- so when your car shuts off-it shuts off.
- You may alter you steering column to prevent loss of steering.
- You may cut wheel wells for tire clearance. Fenders may be bolted back together with 3 - 5/16 inch bolts or less.
- Numbers must be painted on both front doors and on the roof. Numbers must be 18" high on the door and 36" high on the roof. Management reserves the right to change duplicate numbers.
- Cars must be ready. You will have 3 minutes from the time your events is announced to get into the crash area.
- NO TEAM DRIVING WILL BE ALLOWED!! Should the situation arise the judges have the right to make a judgement call. Do not avoid making a hit on your buddy so you can eliminate a chosen car. Do not hold a car until your buddy is in a position to hit it. Any decision on the matter (or any other) should be held at the drives meeting prior to the state of the derby. NOT AFTER!!!
